Chert

On the way home on Tuesday, we swung into the village of Elveden to escape the traffic, and to visit this church that we spotted on the way in. Norfolk churches are mostly Norman in architecture (big square tower instead of a spire) and have chert cobbles in their walls. We saw one church in Norwich that had chert flakes as the mortar-VERY sharp.
