Called away for a
conference on Microbial Ecology, Josh arrived in Vienna today and managed to catch the tail end of a beautiful afternoon. Somewhat naively and with map in hand, Josh stumbled across
St. Stephen's cathedral and the above featured
Hofburg Imperial Palace. Out front was this giant hot-air balloon
Mozartkugel (yum). Heather and Jamie were okay not coming this time. A week is a long time to be wandering around a city... But can anyone familiar with Vienna recommend sites not-to-be missed this week?
Schönbrunn Palace is already on the list!

Josh - you inspired me to look back on my 'inter-railing' diary from 10 years ago! One place to visit is the Weiner Prater - a fabulous fun fair, with a world famous (?) feris wheel, very good at night. I also apparently visited a park with a Strauss statue where we heard live classical music, and went to the museum where Mozart wrote Marriage of Figaro - but can't remember much about it! Have fun, Debbie
Hey Josh, I believe you are in your poster session right now! Hope it is going really well, and that you will enjoy the rest of the conference and the rest of your visit to Vienna so much more after this is over! And Heather, hope you and Jamie are doing fine on your own? I remember all too well the times that Dad had to travel when Josh was a baby. I'm sure you're hanging in there MUCH better than I did.
Gotta love how in Europe you really do just "stumble on" palaces, cathedrals, etc.
In Canada all you'll "stumble on" is yet another Tim Hortons or an old white dog turd.
Thanks Debbie, mom and Caits for your comments. Debbie, I'll pursue those suggestions. And Mom, the poster was just fine. Not too stressful at all... Been good so far - made some great contacts - exciting. But can't wait to get back home to the girls. And Caits, you said it.
