Vieux-Quebec
Josh was invited to give a talk in Quebec City in February, and Heather gleefully tagged along once we secured the best babysitters Ontario can offer (Mom and Cal: thank you!). We seem to have a lot of photos of Heather's back, trudging as quickly as possible through the frozen streets. It was bitterly, bitterly cold, and we happily ducked into any and every antique shop, art gallery or cafe to warm up. Quebec City really is like a slice of Europe, and we plan to head back with the kids some year soon to show them some Canadian history.
The Carnaval was on, with ice sculptures decorating all the streets and a great atmosphere.
This was the strangest thing we'd seen in a while: a canoe race across the frozen river. Can you see the all the tiny crazy people dragging their boats over the fast-flowing ice? We watched in relative comfort from our viewpoint by the Chateau Frontenac.
These are the smiles you can muster from lips frozen after watching said canoe race... we warmed up with some Caribou.
