Fire tongs punch

On Sunday evening we went for a housewarming party to Stephan and Friederike's new place in Birmingham. The highlight of the evening was the 'lighting' of the Feuerzangenbowle, translated: Fire-tongs-punch. And it lived up to its name, offering plenty of fire and packing quite a punch. Essentially it is mulled wine with molten sugar, rum (fuel), cinnamon, mandarin oranges and cloves. Apparently this drink is for the dead of winter and as Marc, our Canadian friend pointed out, is the perfect 'apres-ski' drink. Mmmm. Indeed.
