Northern Wales has abundant castles, mostly built by the English as they tried to take over Wales back in the 1200's to 1400's. We toured Criccieth and Harlech, both dramatically perched on headlands jutting out into the Irish Sea. Here we are battling the ferocious winds on the ramparts at Criccieth. Despite the rain and gusting wind, they were filming a commercial in the castle courtyard, touting Britain as an ideal tourist destination.

So the English tried to take over Wales in the 1200's to 1400's, eh? What a coincidence - I was just trying to do that myself a few weeks ago. In fact, the campaign is still in progress, waiting for the participants to have the time and energy to get together to conclude it...
