Winogradsky

Josh teaches a 4th year course about biogeochemical microbiology (18 students), in addition to his new course called "Fundamentals of Microbiology" (851 students). For his 4th year course in 2008 he collected Laurel Creek mud and water with the students and put it in a glass cylinder as Sergei Winogradsky did many years ago (a "Winogradsky Column"). It has been on Josh's office windowsill since then and has developed quite a few colours due to bacterial photosynthetic pigments. Today Josh opened it up to look at the surface layer through a microscope for kids at the Science Open House, managing to save a few video clips at the same time. Enjoy.
