Flails

Jamie has some funny little habits. One is her wide eyes in the dark (do all babies do the lights-out stare?), the other is her flailing arms as she is laid down on her back. We're laughing with her most of the time... As with all our pictures, this photo was taken without the 'benefit' of a flash. Often this is an advantage, but as our friend Melody also experiences, movement is captured. In this case, we really like the effect.

Heard about this (flailing arms) on cbc this morning. It's the natural falling instinct. You may experience it during sleep that you feel like you're falling and spaz out a bit.

As for the "wide eyes in the dark" thing, I remember it well. When trying to sleep, or nurse in bed at night, I used to get a little creeped out to have this wide-eyed creature staring at me, often with her mouth opening and closing, trying to latch on to me.
