Elephant Rocks

Warning: Those of you with ophidiophobia should not scroll to the end of this post.

Elephant Rocks is a beach featuring a collection of lumbering beasts hanging about in front of the Indian Ocean. These super-old rocks, rounded by ceaseless waves, resemble a herd of elephants.

This little lizard we spotted was an appetizer for the next bit of wildlife we spotted.

We all happily launched ourselves across crevices and over the bumps.

And then we made a surprise discovery on the way home, thankfully noticing it with enough time to stop in our tracks. Several of us jumped up onto a conveniently placed bench, one of us served as a photographer, and Pa volunteered to toss a stick towards the visitor, which then calmly obliged by slithering away. Although the Dugite is a highly venomous snake (surprise surprise), it is not very aggressive by Western Australia snake standards. Nonetheless, this was the biggest (and baddest) snake we saw on our trip and it still gives us the heebie-jeebies.
