Hi me

Using the new holding position, Josh and Jamie did a little tour of the house. One stop on our tour was the now-popular mirror where Jamie stared open-mouthed at herself. We've also discovered that a winnie-the-pooh wind up machine with moving images mesmorizes her. Anyone have any other suggestions for ways to keep her fascinated and learning?

Congratulations Heather and Josh! Jamie is so cute!
You may already know but if you don't...new born babies can only see black and white for the first few weeks and are more stimulated by seeing stripes and spots. The first colour they see is orange and so a great stimulating toy for a new born-3wks is a orange mirror!
It's also good for visual input to have Jamie lying on her back getting her to look at toys- in her line of vision- not midline- she won't see it there(also not above or behind cause that will make her arch her back and it's too early for that) so she can follow the toys....babies like it, especially black and white stuff! Also lots of floor play! on her side back and stomach!
Hope that was something different. Love Leanne and Brian.

Although I am an "infant cognition expert" I actually don't know all that much. Leanne and Brian are right about the stripes and spots (they like simple patterns with lots of contrast).

I wrote an undergrad paper on newborn imiatation. Try putting your face a few inches away from hers. Sick out your tounge, smile, and make an O shape with your mouth (not all at once, obviously!). See what she can imitate.

Have fun!

The playstaton 3 is coming out. Plenty of stimulation! Or you could break out some pictures of me.
All kidding aside, are you going to be posting more feeding shots?
Dan
