Mothering Sunday

In the UK, Mother's Day (or Mothering Sunday) falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent and is tied to Church of England tradition. On this Mothering Sunday, Josh and Jamie are so very thankful for Heather. Especially after this past sick week; she was tireless, patient and loving. Here's a glimpse of what Josh saw from the dining room window last week as we all stayed home, coughing and snotty-nosed.

Thank you Heather.

And to our mothers, thank you for everything - but if it's okay, we'll save the cards for May 13th, the real Mother's Day.

Happy mother's day Heather.

Had me scared there for a second. I was like..."Mother's Day??? Oh crap!".

Have a great day.

We just celebrated Mothering Sunday in Brentwood Chapel (a little Anglican Church).

Here's interesting history about the day...originally it began as a day off for domestic workers to go and visit their home church or "mother" church which was considered important for spiritual things (especially considering children were often sent to work at age 10!). This meant families that had been separated often got together for church and then the rest of the day. As the children walked to their church, they picked flowers to take to church or to their mothers. In short, even I got flowers in church today though I am not a mother!! Works for me...

Happy mothering Sunday Heather, we've come so far you won't need to send Jaime to work until long after age 10!

The lady who invented the american mothers day spent her entire life and all her money fighting to prevent it from becoming a commercial nightmare. She died a pauper. I think we will stick with our tradition, noone ever died a pauper trying to fight it!

Happy Mothers Day to all Mum's, you are amazing.

Hope you had a less-snotty-than-expected Mother's Day and that Josh was able to muster some enthusiasm from his sick bed!

It was wonderful spending some time with you, Heather (& Jamie) over the weekend and I was so chuffed that you made it to my concert on Saturday night - I hope it gave you a suitable break.

Love, Jenni x x
